The rhythms of Africa are now just digital files crowding my laptop; we are in the United States. Every trip is unique — goals shift, opportunities change, priorities adjust, and expertise and wisdom grow. We launched three new languages — Chakali, Wali, and Dagaare; we joined the colorful, sweaty, inspiring water filter distribution in a remote village; and we trained Joshua and Enoch to use a new portable recording backpack. The growing local team will record new BiblePlus+ material and produce short 2- or 3-minute videos.

Enoch is the Communications Director. From his desk at the Philip Centre in Accra, he is an integral link to the team in the USA. David (not in the photo) works for the USA studio from South Africa.
Joshua was a Moto Missionary for 5 years in the dangerous and untamed bush. He has ridden his Moto through rivers and balanced it on a leaky canoe to access the remotest villages. He is strong, with broad shoulders and a quiet nature. See the photo below from the 2020 Annual Report :-). Joshua speaks several northern languages and has used a portable lapel mic to record community health information, testimonies, and other audio tracks. Joshua has joined the communications team and will be wearing the recording backpack.

There is nothing like hands on practice. So to become comfortable with the variety of microphone configurations and tripod and video setups, Enoch and Joshua undertook making two videos while on the trip. They are the very first examples of how the kit quickly record and produce videos that explain and inspire.

Together, Ray, Joshua, and Enoch will be extending the materials and reach of BiblePlus+ over the coming months. We might be able to make a Version 1.1 remotely, using files transferred over the Internet. Joshua also learned how to record the audio tracks for Kindle-like picture story books using software from SIL. The Bloom Books are open source and sharable, so we can make kid and youth oriented material with Mampruli, Bimoba, Komba speakers. Very exciting!
Thank you everyone for following along and praying for us. The trip started with Beth’s challenge of a torn retina and emergency laser surgery and then my Dad’s “graduation” while Beth and I were on another continent. But the work is continuing. Great progress will be made by the local team, and it was so great to meet David and spend more than week together. Beth and I both hope that we can work more with David.
Our next trip? Hmmm… The dry, scorchingly hot January and February months are great for recording. Deafening rain on tin roofs is avoided, and in the dry season, tending to fields is minimal, people have time to spare. Please pray for wisdom and timing and the growing team.
Thanks. This is the last post, until our next visit.
Pete & Beth.
